Christ’s Victory over Evil

In Letters and Papers from Prison, Dietrich Bonhoeffer wrote about a world “come of age” in which people saw no need for God that is until they reached the end of themselves. Bonhoeffer called him the God-of-the-gaps. Crises hit and people reach for God. Crises pass, and they rely on their wits and reason to decide what they should do and how they should be. Similarly, we have the devil-of-the-gaps. We call on the devil-of-the-gaps when evil is palpable and human behavior so horrific that no human explanation suffices—not from the social or hard sciences. Even among Christians, people generally don’t know what the Bible says about what the demons can and cannot do given the gospel of Jesus Christ.

During a two-day workshop on spiritual warfare, I was interviewed by Pastor Paul Utnage of Springhill Presbyterian Church in Bozeman, Montana. Listen as I talk about Christ’s Victory over the Evil One.
